Sophie Lüssi String Trio: To The Left And Right Of The Ocean
Modern / Improvised / Imaginary Folk. Violinist Sophie Lüssi was born and raised in Winterthur, Eastern Switzerland. Initiallly trained in classical music she was soon waylaid by the charms of jazz. Later, Lüssi consequently graduated from the jazz department of the Zurich University of the Arts. Since then she has found a second home in Buenos Aires, where she studied composition further with Daniel Montes. While active in the music scene there, she also met her future husband, the famous tango violinist Leonardo Ferreyra. On the present recording their common string trio is spotlighted. For this occasion Lüssi composed all the music, but left space enough for improvisation as well. The thirteen pieces are an ear catching blend of Bartók's vitality, tango elements and jazzy elegance.
