Davos triumphs against Germany on second day of Spengler Cup
Davos’s ice-hockey players have defeated Germany’s Kölner Haie on the second day of the Spengler Cup. The triumph comes a day after Davos snatched victory from the Czech side, Sparta Prag, in a penalty shoot-out.
Davos's 3-0 victory over the German side puts the Swiss team at the top of the scoreboard with four points, ahead of tournament favourites, Canada Selects, who beat Jokerit Helsinki in their match earlier on Wednesday.
The Canadians have yet to play their second match so the scores are likely to even up, but Davos’s second win means they have strong chance of qualifying for the final on Sunday.
The team has been helped by an impressive line-up of players, including four Scandinavians and a former Davos star, now playing in Bern, Ivo Rüthemann.
Davos have a break from the tournament on Thursday, when Canada take on the Kölner Haie and Sparta Prag meet Jokerit Helsinki. But they will be back in action on Friday when they take on the Canadians.
