Prospects improve for Davis Cup
Switzerland, most probably led by the world's top tennis player, Roger Federer, will host Belgium in the Davis Cup world group playoffs in September.
The Swiss team, which missed out on a place in the top tier of the international team competition this season, will get a chance to return to the first division when it plays the Belgians in late September. The draw on Wednesday saw Switzerland avoid difficult ties against Australia and Serbia.
Federer has skipped most of his country’s Davis Cup series this year, but he usually comes back to help the team if it needs to win to get into the world group or avoid relegation to the second division.
Last year in a relegation battle against the Czech Republic, Federer won two singles matches but the Swiss still lost 3-2.
The other pairings from Wednesday’s draw include Chile versus Australia and Britain against Austria, while Slovakia will face Serbia.
