Swiss advance in Pacific Life Open
Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka have both qualified for the next round of the Pacific Life Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells.
World number one Federer swept aside Nicolas Mahut in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 on Tuesday, while Wawrinka dropped one set to win 6-3, 6-7 and 6-0 against Marcos Baghdatis.
Federer, who appears to have recovered from a bout of glandular fever at the beginning of the year, hit nine aces and won 23 out of 24 points on his first serve.
“It’s a good feeling when you feel everything’s going your way and everything you’re trying to do sort of works well,” he said.
Federer will face Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia on Wednesday. Wawrinka’s next opponent is South Korea’s Lee Hyung-Taik.
