In the 20th century, composers such as Ernest Bloch, Arthur Honegger, Rolf Liebermann and Frank Martin contributed significantly to putting Switzerland on the musical map. Prior to them, however, Swiss born Joseph Joachim Raff (1822-1882) had won even greater fame in Germany as a composer, pianist, arranger and Conservatoire director.
