Computer clues in hunt for twins

Police searching for missing twins from Switzerland have analysed the computer belonging to their father who committed suicide on February 3.

The girls’ uncle told journalists on Thursday that the 43-year-old Canadian-born father had been looking at sites dealing with suicide, firearms and poison, as well as checking the timetable of ferries to Corsica.

He had been using his work computer, and had deleted the files.

On Wednesday the hunt for the six-year-old twins spread to Corsica after French authorities confirmed they were spotted on board a ferry to the island.

All three were seen by several people on board the Marseille-Propriano ferry on the night of January 31.

The father was also spotted leaving the ferry the following morning, accompanied by two girls who could not be positively identified, Swiss police said.

It was the first confirmed sighting of the twins since January 30 when their father abducted them from Saint Sulpice near Lausanne, where they live with their Italian mother.

The twins’ uncle told reporters on Thursday that he had learned from the police that the movements of the father on his return from Corsica were becoming clearer, but he could give no details.

The mother made an appeal on Italian television on Wednesday for witnesses to come forward. “Help us to find them. It is my hope that they are still alive,” she told a crime watch programme.

Police from Switzerland, France and Italy are trying to trace the movements of the father up to the time when he threw himself under a train in the southern Italian town of Cerignola.
