Pre-season blow for Ambri

The top scorer in last season's Swiss ice hockey championships, the Canadian Stéphane Lebeau, is expected to miss the start of the new campaign because of injury.

Lebeau withdrew from a pre-season friendly game after apparently breaking his left hand, and is unlikely to be available for selection for at least four weeks. The new season starts on September 9.

He is one of several Canadians playing for Ambri. Lebeau and Dan Marois have recently been joined by Gilles Thibaudeau, who played for Sierre, and Claude Verret, who came to Ambri from Lausanne.

Ambri leave Switzerland next week for tour of Russia, and will meet, among others, the European League winners, Metallurg Magnitogorsk, in a friendly match.
