Even before the start of the autumn competitions, the 32 year-old from canton Ticino has three times more points than his closest rival in the Order of Merit Credit Suisse Private Banking, the official ranking of the Swiss Professional Golfers' Association.

Quirici has 132,808 points, making it impossible for his main challenger, second placed Francisco Valera, with 40,235 points, to catch up by the end of the season.

Quirici has been a professional golfer since 1989. The last two years have been his most successful, finishing 54th on the international Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) circuit in 1998 and 80th last year.

His best performances this year include 10th place at the Spanish Open and 11th places at the Dutch Open and Rio de Janeiro Open.
