Schnyder out of Luxembourg tournament

More frustration for Patty Schnyder Keystone Archive

Patty Schnyder has failed to advance past the second round of the Luxembourg tennis tournament after losing in three sets to South African third seed Amanda Coetzer.

Coetzer took the first set 6-4 and was expected to close out the match against Schnyder. But the Swiss put up a fight to take the second 6-3.

Unfortunately for Schnyder, the final set was a one-way affair, with Coetzer breezing through 6-1.

Wednesday's match is likely to be Schnyder's last on the WTA tour this season. Together with last week's first round defeat at the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich, it marks a miserable end to a fairly miserable year of the Swiss number two.

After winning just 16 of her 39 matches since January, the former world top ten player is set to finish this season somewhere close to 50th - her worst year-ending position since 1996.
