Gut showed good form for her third podium place of the season in the women’s super G in Cortina, Italy while only Croatia’s Ivica Kostelic was faster than Zurbriggen in the men’s combination in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
American Lindsey Vonn edged Germany’s Maria Riesch by a mere 0.5 seconds in Cortina. Gut was 0.85 seconds back.
In Kitzbuehel, Ivica Kostelic proved he is still the man to beat, taking first place in the combination, super-G and second in the slalom to extend his lead for the overall title.
While Zurbriggen disappointed with a 13th place finish in his preferred discipline, the slalom, his second in the combination and strong showing (13th) in Saturday’s downhill, put him into second place overall.
Didier Cuche’s win in the downhill, his fourth at Kitzbuehel to tie the record, put him in fourth place overall, behind Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal.
In the women’s overall, Gut is the top Swiss in ninth position.
