No winner in Zurich mayoral election
Neither of the two main candidates for mayor of the city of Zurich managed to win an overall majority in voting on Sunday.
Radical politician Kathrin Martelli won 39, 408 votes – 1,288 more than Social Democrat Corine Mauch but fell short of the 40,906 needed to win outright. The two women now face a runoff vote on March 29.
The vote followed the surprise resignation of charismatic long-serving mayor, Elmar Ledergerber, at the end of last year.
The election campaign was dominated by themes of gender and sexuality, as Mauch is openly gay.
