Party groupings in Parliament 1971–2007
All but one member of the House of Representatives and the Senate belong to one of the five parliamentary groupings. The rightwing Swiss People's Party and its allies are the largest grouping, but still short of a majority in either of the parliamentary chambers. As a rule it takes the combined forces of two, or more often three, groupings to push a bill through parliament.
