Protesters again occupy Zurich’s Paradeplatz

Protesters aligned with the global “Occupy” movement demonstrated in Zurich for the fourth consecutive weekend on Saturday.

Armed with a large pot of soup, around 80 demonstrators occupied Paradeplatz, the financial centre of Zurich and home to the headquarters of Swiss banks UBS and Credit Suisse.

The unauthorised but peaceful protest denounced the “rotten financial system” and called for “a new approach to economic cohabitation”.

The “Occupy” movement first appeared at Paradeplatz on October 15, and since then has created a permanent camp at Lindenhof in Zurich’s old town.

Last Thursday, protesters lodged a request for authorisation of the Lindenhof camp, which has not yet been granted.

A smartphone displays the SWIplus app with news for Swiss citizens abroad. Next to it, a red banner with the text: ‘Stay connected with Switzerland’ and a call to download the app.
