Vietnam human rights dialogue continued

Switzerland and Vietnam have been pursuing their dialogue over human rights, the foreign ministry has announced.

A Vietnamese delegation wrapped up a three-day visit on Saturday, with the main subjects of the talks being legal issues, women’s rights and international human rights.

“The talks, which were marked by an openness and interest, allowed a fruitful exchange and showed the particular importance the two countries accord to dialogue,” said a foreign ministry statement.

In 1971 Switzerland was one of the first western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, which at that time was at war with the United States.

Economics Minister Doris Leuthard last year signed four agreements last year with Hanoi aimed at trying to integrate Vietnam better into the global economy.

Switzerland is the 17th biggest foreign investor in Vietnam.
