Ju-Air plans to resume flying the historic Junker Ju-52 aircraft almost two weeks after an accident claimed the lives of 20 people.

“We assume today that we will have no flight operations until August 16, but that we will resume flight operations on Friday August 17,” Ju-Air spokesman Christian Gartmann told Swiss public radio, SRF.

Ju-Air stopped operations on a voluntary basis after one of its vintage planes crashed in Piz Segnas, eastern Switzerland, on Saturday, killing 17 passengers and three crew members.

Ju-Air initially said the historic aircraft would probably not take off again until more detailed information on the accident had been obtained. The investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the Swiss Safety Investigation Authority.

Gartmann said flights would resume “unless there are question marks in the meantime with regard to the safety of flight operations”.
