Swiss to head Gulf Air

Bahrain's Gulf Air has chosen a Swiss national as its new CEO. Björn Näf has been running the airline on an interim basis since last July.

Näf joined the company as chief operating officer last April. At the time, another Swiss executive, André Dosé, was running the airline after leaving the helm of former national carrier Swiss International Airlines in 2004.

Dosé only lasted four months as CEO before his contract was terminated by mutual agreement.

Näf joined the company from Kenya’s Transafrik International, where he oversaw international cargo, humanitarian and relief flights for the United Nations.

He also worked in the past for Swiss, running regional operations, and its predecessor Crossair.

Since his arrival, Näf has overseen an order for 24 of Boeing’s future 787 airliners, worth $6 billion (SFr6.62 billion). The company is also considering the purchase of eight Airbus A320 short-haul aircraft.
