Cantons Zug and Zurich remain the most attractive Swiss locations for business, according to a study published on Thursday by the Credit Suisse financial group.
The two cantons rank well ahead of Aargau, while Geneva has bounced back into contention taking fourth position.
The most unattractive business locations, according to the study, are cantons Jura, Neuchâtel and Valais.
It says that the key factors in Zug’s ranking were its low tax rate, the general level of education of the people there, the availability of highly-qualified people and good transport connections.
CS economists studied data from 2,700 Swiss communes in coming to their assessment.
The study notes that due to cyclical uncertainties regarding future fiscal revenues, the pace of tax cuts had slowed down.
As most cantonal finances are well-balanced, tax increases have not yet become an issue in Switzerland, it adds.
