Bern celebrates the 400th anniversary of its big bell
On September 14, 1611 Bern cathedral’s big bell was cast. It was rung by hand until the mid-20th century, when the mechanism was automated, after a ringer was killed by the clapper. In autumn 2011 Bern cathedral celebrated the 400th anniversary of the ten-ton bell. (SF/swissinfo)
