Donat Fisch Quartett: Lappland
Modern. Bernese saxofone player Donat Fisch is a post-Coltrane heavyweight champion, much-admired within Swiss jazz circles. Although he unceasingly develops artistically, this maverick can only rarely be heard live. Lappland thus marks his most recent smoke signal. The title refers to the musician's yearly timeouts alone with the horn in the Nordic wild. This time Fisch expanded his usual trio to a quartet by adding famed peer saxofonist Andy Scherrer. Together these two stylists climb the peaks of modern jazz saxofonery. Lappland is music for the brave: full of stamina and silent moments. It truly displays a musical attitude as unlimited as the Polar night sky.
