“Elder sister” fetches record price

"The elder sister" was painted in 1889 Koller auction house

A painting, “The elder sister”, by Albert Anker brought in a record SFr7.38 million ($7.99 million) for a work by the 19th century Swiss artist.

Also sold Friday evening at the Zurich auction house, Koller, was another Anker work. “Girl in a red cap” went for SFr1.4 million.

“We knew that with ‘The elder sister’ we had an opportunity to offer an exceptional work of Anker’s and it’s fantastic that it brought a record price,” said auctioneer Cyril Koller.

The paintings were bought by two Swiss collectors, the auction house said.

In total, Koller generated SFr20 million in sales of paintings on Friday.
