New Swiss Talents – CM5 and Fusion (jazz and rock groups) (NST 4/1980)

CM5 from Lausanne and Fusion from Basel were the most outstanding groups of the 1979 Swiss National Jazz and Rock Festival in Augst.

CM5 followed its Augst success with an appearance the same year at the Montreux International Jazz Festival, and has since also performed in the Netherlands and France.

Fusion made its debut in 1979, appearing at the Augst and Montreux Festivals the same year, and has since performed extensively throughout Switzerland and West Germany.

This programme was written and narrated by Dany Tobler, organiser of the Augst Festival. His festival is staged annually in the historic setting of an open-air Roman amphitheatre.

Background information

Switzerland is a small alpine nation shaped and influenced by great cultural cross-currents that have swept through Europe over centuries. Out of elements of diversity, the people of this country have forged a distinctly Swiss identity. And music is one of its most eloquent expressions. “Musica Helvetica” explores different facets of music in Switzerland from its earliest beginnings to the latest works of modern Swiss composers, from folk music to rock and jazz. This historical series span the years 1973 to 1998. These recordings are not available.
