New Swiss Talents – Emilie Haudenschild (NST 7/1981)

Emilie Haudenschild was born in Basel on 8 February 1955 and studied first at the Music Academy of Basel, obtaining her teaching degree with honours in 1975 and a soloist's diploma in 1977.

Further studies led her to the Juillard School of Music in New York. Upon her return to Switzerland, she gained two major awards at the 1979 Tibor Varga International Festival in Sion, and won the 1980 Soloist’s Competition of the Swiss Musicians’ Association. Since Emilie Haudenschild has made successful concert appearances throughout Switzerland, West Germany, France and the United States.

Background information

Switzerland is a small alpine nation shaped and influenced by great cultural cross-currents that have swept through Europe over centuries. Out of elements of diversity, the people of this country have forged a distinctly Swiss identity. And music is one of its most eloquent expressions. “Musica Helvetica” explores different facets of music in Switzerland from its earliest beginnings to the latest works of modern Swiss composers, from folk music to rock and jazz.
