Prizes awarded at human rights festival
The International Film Festival on Human Rights in Geneva has awarded its main prize jointly to two films, one set in the United States and one in Nigeria.
The organisers said there had been more than 16,000 visitors this year at the ten-day festival, which had 20 works in competition.
In Prison my Whole Life by Marc Evans und Suffering and Smiling by Dan Ollman were the titles of the winning films. The Nigerian-set Suffering and Smiling, also received the junior jury award.
World Organisation Against Torture award went to Calle Santa Fe by the Chilean Carmen Castillo.
The festival, which finished on Sunday, was dedicated to Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi and put the focus on China, Russia, Darfur and Myanmar, the rise in populism in Europe and the role of women in the fight against impunity.
Each film screening during the event is accompanied by public debate.
