Schnyder wins Swiss duel at French Open
Patty Schnyder is through to the next round of the French Open after winning her match against fellow Swiss Timea Bacsinszky.
Schnyder, tenth in the ATP women’s ranking, won Wednesday’s match 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and will meet French player Emilie Loit in the third round.
In second-round matches in the men’s singles tournament on Thursday, Roger Federer will play Albert Montanes of Spain. Federer won their last meeting on clay in Monte Carlo in 2005.
After Tuesday’s win against Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber, ninth ranked Stanislas Wawrinka will be up against 19-year-old Croatian Marin Cilic, the Roland Garros junior champion three years ago.
