Street Parade stays friendly

In keeping with this year's theme of friendship, the 820,000 ravers at Zurich's Street Parade enjoyed a peaceful party on Saturday.

One of the largest techno parties in Europe, the event was the 17th to be organised in Zurich, attracting 20,000 more revellers than last year.

The parade of 27 “love mobiles”, blasting out techno, followed a route along the lake in the early afternoon before setting up as dancing venues.

First aid workers dealt with 641 people during the event, which carried on into the early hours of Sunday, a third fewer cases than last year. There were no serious injuries but 64 people were taken to hospital.

The relatively peaceful outcome will give a boost to organisers who were warned that future events could be cancelled if there was a repeat of the drunken misbehaviour seen at previous parades.
