Before his current job with swissinfo’s photo department, Kern lived in the US and spent time roaming the country with his camera. That work became the focus of his most recent book, which looks at the unspectacular everyday life of Americans in America. As a silent observer, Kern says the work is a visual commentary on the state of the nation through pictures that appear to be familiar yet still surprising with subtle details.
