Swiss break relay record in Zurich

The Swiss 100-metre relay team has set a national record, smashing the old one by seven hundredths of a second, at the Zurich Weltklasse athletics meeting.

Also on good form on Thursday evening was world champion Yohan Blake, who ran a personal best time of 9.82 seconds to win the 100 metres.

The 21-year-old Jamaican seized the world title last week after  his training partner Usain Bolt, who was not competing in Zurich, was disqualified for a false start.

The Jamaican team, without Blake, were the victors in the 4×100 metre relay. The Swiss team’s time of 38.62 – which made up for their disappointment at the World Championships in Daegu in South Korea in which they dropped the baton – put them in third place after Britain.

However, it was not a good night for Swiss hope Lisa Urech, who went out at the first hurdle during the women’s 100 metre hurdles.
