More laurels for “Simi”
The adulation for Swiss ski jumping hero Simon Ammann continued on Friday, after he was presented with a SportStar Award for his dual-goal Olympic performance.
The SportStar Awards, which were created by sports broadcaster Eurosport with the support of the International Olympic Committee, are to “honor European medallists and endorse Olympic sports values”.
Ammann became a national hero in February after winning ski jumping gold in both the 90 and 120-meter events at Salt Lake City.
Other athletes to be honoured for their Olympic performances included Austrian Giant Slalom winner Stephan Eberharter, Russian figure skating gold winner Alexei Yagudin and female duel-gold and silver skier Janica Kostelic from Croatia.
Eurosport TV will broadcast highlights of the ceremony on May 1.
