Félix Vallotton

An avant-garde observer of his times returns to Zurich.

Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) was born in Lausanne but moved to Paris in 1882, where he became associated with the influential Nabis circle of artists. There Vallotton distinguished himself from his contemporaries through his ironic portrayals of society. His sometimes mysterious paintings work on different levels and contain formal elements that were to be found later in Surrealism and New Objectivity.

Zurich’s Kunsthaus Fine Arts Museum is presenting his work as part of its “Félix Vallotton – Idyll on the Edge” exhibition that runs until January 13, 2008.
