In Erinnerung an Leo Schelbert (In Memory Of Leo Schelbert)

swissinfo.ch

Instrumental. Leo Schelbert (1905-1966) was a Swiss folk music maverick. He spent his entire life in his birthplace, the Muotathal valley in Central Switzerland. Ds Tönis Leo, as he became known nationally, was born into a family of amateur musicians. Entirely self-taught, Schelbert picked up the Swiss diatonic accordion at an early age. He ran a barber shop to earn a living, but was still able to compose about 50 intricate compositions, which have stood the test of time. The present compilation showcases Schelbert's music through interpretations by four different ensembles, including an original bonus track played by the composer himself.
