Olympics: Müller on course for showdown with main rival

Switzerland's defending single sculls Olympic rowing champion, Xeno Müller, has qualified for the final of the competition in Sydney after winning his semi-final heat on Thursday.

Müller, who won the gold medal at the Atlanta games four years ago, finished the course in 7:01.86 minutes – 1.61 seconds ahead of Germany’s Marcel Hacker.

In the final on Saturday, Müller will be up against his main rival, New Zealand’s Rob Waddell, currently world champion.

Waddell won his semi-final heat in 6:58.01 minutes – three seconds faster than Müller’s time.
