New Israeli ambassador appointed
The Israeli embassy in Switzerland is set to receive a new boss. The foreign ministry in Tel Aviv has chosen Yigal Antebbi to replace the current ambassador, Yitzhak Mayer, whose term comes to an end next month.
Antebbi is currently serving as the ambassador to Poland.
The embassy in Berne said the government had not yet confirmed him in his new post, which he is expected to take up in January 2001. A career diplomat, Antebbi is not linked to any political party.
His predecessor, Mayer, belongs to the National Religious Party, which left the Israeli governing coalition last month. The government subsequently announced it was recalling a number of ambassadors appointed by the party.
