Tattoo parade through Basel’s streets

The city of Basel reverberated with the sound of military pipes and drums as the annual Basel Tattoo drew to a close on Saturday.

Tens of thousands of people lined the streets as more than 30 formations groups from around the world marched through the Rhine city.

Also participating in the parade were decorated cows which represented a traditional procession to a Swiss alp.

Organisers said this year’s festival – the biggest of its kind outside Scotland – attracted about 240,000 spectators over the past week.
