UBS Hires Lewis From Nomura as Investment Bank Finance Chief
Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) — UBS AG, Switzerland’s biggest bank, hired Jonathan Lewis as the chief financial officer for its investment bank to replace Bob Stefanowski, who is leaving.
Lewis, currently the co-deputy CFO at Nomura Holdings Inc., will join in February, according to a memo today from UBS CFO Tom Naratil and investment bank head Andrea Orcel. A UBS spokesman confirmed the memo’s contents.
UBS, based in Zurich, decided two years ago to shrink its investment bank and has since been running the business under strict limits on its balance sheet and risk taking. The unit posted a loss for the third quarter after setting aside litigation provisions amid talks to settle investigations into alleged manipulation of the foreign exchange markets.
Stefanowski, who has held the post at the investment bank since 2011, will work for one of UBS’s clients, according to the memo.
Lewis has been with Nomura for six-and-a-half years and previously spent 12 years at Bear Stearns International Ltd. in various finance roles in Europe and Asia, the memo said. He will report to Naratil and Orcel and will move to London from Tokyo, it said.
