Zurich organisers prepared for street parade

Organisers of Zurich’s techno festival have ruled out a stampede similar to the one in the German city of Duisburg on Saturday.

Potential danger spots such as overcrowded tunnel entrances did not exist in Switzerland’s biggest city, a spokesman for the Zurich organisers is quoted as saying in the NZZ am Sonntag newspaper.

Events, including the Love Parade on August 14, would be monitored from helicopters to prevent a mass panic, the Zurich City police added.

At least 19 people have been killed and more than 340 others injured in a mass panic at the street parade in Duisburg – billed as the world’s largest techno party.
