Swiss Day at Hannover Trade Fair
The Hannover Trade Fair has opened in Germany, with many eyes looking at what Switzerland has to offer because the opening day is also "Swiss Day".
The Hannover Trade Fair has opened in Germany, with many eyes looking at what Switzerland has to offer because the opening day is also “Swiss Day”.
More than 180 Swiss companies are represented at the world’s largest showcase for the investment goods branch. Under the spotlight at the “Swiss Day” celebrations is the Federal Institute of Technology, which is attending Hannover for the first time.
“The show brings together innovation coming from the universities, and new projects and products from industry. This is most important for both sides,” says Stephan Bieri, vice-president of the Institute’s board.
He hopes that the Institute will benefit from the exposure to big business by making valuable contacts in the private sector. Industry is increasingly taking a leading role in financing its research projects.
One programme of particular interest is the Institute’s research into the nanometre, the smallest unit of measurement at one thousand millionth of a metre. Over the next three years, the Institute will be investing SFr62 million into industrial applications of such a tiny measurement.
The Institute believes that there are exciting commercial possibilities for it in machine construction, in microelectronics, in biotechnology and chemistry.
Swiss Pavilions in Hannover can be found in Buildings 02, 13, 15 and 18. The Fair runs till Friday.
