Lakeside towns go their own musical ways

June in Switzerland brings a host of musical events: Thun is presenting classical and jazz concerts, while in Nyon the accent is on pop music.

The series of 11 classical and jazz concerts in Thun runs until June 21. An evening of baroque music on June 7 in the castle’s knight’s hall will set the tone for the Thun event.

It will be followed by a morning performance on June 9 by a Dixieland jazz band on board one of the lake’s passenger boats before the concert series returns to the medieval castle, and other venues in town.

On June 13, there will be a tribute to Marlene Dietrich on the 100th anniversary of her birth at the Beau Rivage hall.

The concerts wind up on June 21 at the parish church with the Camerata Switzerland Orchestra performing a violin concerto by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and a serenade by Johannes Brahms.

Ferry and Khaled

Bryan Ferry, Marianne Faithfull and Khaled are topping the bill at the Caribana Festival in Nyon, which runs from June 13 to 16.

The festival is taking place on two stages close to the lakeshore and there will be something for the kids as well on June 16: dance and musical performances and a parade.

The festival will get Nyon into the swing of things ahead of the larger and better known Paleo rock festival which the town hosts in late July.
