Hingis exits TV dance contest in first round

Five-time grand slam winner Martina Hingis was the first celebrity to be lobbed out of the new series of BBC reality talent show "Strictly Come Dancing" on Saturday.

After coming in the bottom two when phone votes were added to the judges’ score, Hingis, 29, lost a dance-off with her dance partner Matthew Cutler against policeman-turned-crime-presenter Rav Wilding and his partner Aliona Vilani.

“It was a great experience, I learned so much,” she said. “Maybe I’ll come back for a few more lessons to London.”

Strictly Come Dancing features celebrities with professional dance partners competing in ballroom and Latin dances, including jive, rumba, waltz, foxtrot and tango.

Hingis retired from tennis after getting a two-year ban in 2007 for testing positive for cocaine. and agencies
