Schnyder through to second round of Polish Open
Switzerland's Patty Schnyder has beaten Yugoslavia's Sandra Nacuk in the first round of the Polish Open in Sopot.
Schnyder, seeded number four for the tournament, took the first set 6-2, but narrowly lost the second 5-7 before rallying to take the third 6-3.
In the second round, Schnyder will meet Italy’s Silvia Farina.
Defending champion and top seed, Conchita Martinez of Spain, also needed three sets to overcome Magdalena Malejeva of Bulgaria, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4
