Engelberg in canton Obwalden has been cut off, with road and rail lines leading to the village damaged by floods. A helicopter shuttle service is the only link to the outside world, and supplies are having to be flown in. The same helicopters have also helped airlift out 1,500 tourists trapped in the resort.
