Singles are wealthy, independent and happy
Swiss singles are wealthier, more independent but also more conservative than their European counterparts, according to a study.
More than half of single women surveyed indicated they were satisfied with their status and one-third were not actively seeking a partner. Only half as many men were single out of choice.
Of those looking for a partner, both men and women valued qualities including honesty, faithfulness, optimism and sex appeal.
A majority of respondents indicated that both partners should be encouraged to pursue careers should they choose, although 22 per cent prefer a more traditional arrangement, with one partner caring for the children.
The study was conducted by Parship, an online dating service, in 13 European countries over a three-year period. It surveyed 6,500 singles and 6,500 people in a relationship aged 18-59.
