The Swiss city of Basel on Wednesday opened the doors to the ART exhibition, which is arguably one of the most important modern and contemporary art shows in the world.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the exhibition and the number and variety of exhibits are impressive. About 250 selected galleries from Europe, America, Asia and Australia present the works of 1000 artists.

The organisers tried to present the full spectrum of modern and contemporary art. On show are paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations as well as video and multimedia art.

Artists whose works can be admired include Keith Haring (picture above), Picasso, Miro, Dali, Warhol, Beuys and Christo.

However, organisers say that, this year, many young and up-and-coming artists have been given a chance to present their works.

The exhibition can be seen at the Rundhofhalle at the Messe Basel buildings and will last until June 21
