Textile looms, medical instruments, spacecraft components: the Swiss machine industry reflects global trends.
Specialised textile looms, precision instruments for medical care, micro-components for vehicles and spacecraft: the Swiss machine industry reflects both the fragmentation and the health of the global market. With close ties to Swiss universities, the industry is often the first step in a young engineer’s career, bringing dynamism and innovation. 40% of Swiss exports are made by the machine industry.
300,000 people are employed in the sector in Switzerland. This makes it the biggest provider of jobs in industry.
