Doherty’s high flight brings out Geneva police

British tabloids and gossip blogs are abuzz over the weekend catch and release of rocker Pete Doherty after he passed out on a Geneva-bound aeroplane.

The 30-year-old English musician, lead singer for the band Babyshambles and former lover of supermodel Kate Moss, took himself off to the aircraft toilet with his hypodermic needle.

“He had been in there for about 25 minutes when the announcement came over for the crew to prepare the flight for landing,” Britain’s Sunday Mail quoted a passenger as saying after Friday’s flight.

“Pete was taken back to his seat and he looked completely out of it,” the passenger added.

“Swiss police met BA730 from Heathrow to Geneva on Friday and a man was arrested,” a spokesman for British Airways confirmed.

“We were contacted by the captain of a BA flight and a passenger was controlled by the police,” said Geneva police. “He was charged but I cannot say what with. He paid a fine and was allowed to go.”

Doherty was allowed to play a show at the Neuchâtel Open Air Music Festival and has reportedly returned to Britain.
