Mountain film festival in Les Diablerets
Over 30 films from eight countries will be screened this week in Les Diablerets during the resort's annual international festival of alpine film.
The festival jury is presided over by French film-maker Bernhard Germain, and includes two mountain guides.
Apart from the quality and originality of each entry, there are two other criteria: films must have been made in the past three years, and must not yet have reached a wide public.
As a result, say the organisers, two-thirds of the competition entries will have their world premieres in Les Diablerets.
Most of the films were made by French, Italian and Swiss directors, with others coming from Australia, Canada, Russia, Germany and Kirgyzstan.
The competition is divided into three categories – the identity of mountain life, sporting activities in the mountains and protection of the mountain environment.
During the festival, a special award will be presented to a local mountain guide, Valdotain Antonio Carrel, in recognition of his work over many years with mountain rescue services.
