National museums attract increased interest
The Swiss National Museums (SNM) have reported healthy visitor numbers for 2010.
The SNM comprises three buildings – the National Museum Zurich, the Castle of Prangins and the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz – as well as the collections centre in Affoltern am Albis.
The National Museum Zurich attracted a record 160,164 visitors, helped in particular by the temporary exhibition on the silk collection of the Zurich textile company Abraham.
The 34,000 people who came to the Castle of Prangins represented the average for the past seven years, and the number of visitors to the Forum of Swiss History Schwyz – 15,340 – returned to normal levels after the record year of 2009, which featured a hit exhibition on the Swiss Army knife.
The SNM added on Tuesday that the collections centre in Affoltern am Albis had already established itself among experts after only three years.
Switzerland’s most popular museum is the Swiss Transport Museum in Lucerne, which last year attracted nearly 560,000 visitors.
