Realising the monastery that was never built
The plan of the St Gallen monastery is one of the earliest known representations of a monastery complex.
The plan probably dates from the 8th or 9th century and is now held in the St Gallen Abbey Library. The German town of Messkirch, in Baden-Württemberg, is now preparing to rebuild the medieval complex using only old techniques and tools. (swissinfo.ch/SRF)
