Rossini. Petite Messe Solenelle. Basle Madrigalist Choir.
Gioacchino Rossini's dynamic liturgical masterpiece, the Petite Messe Solennelle, was his last significant work. Its style straddles the classical and romantic era, and the choral writing is unusually evocative within Rossini's prodigious output while remaining rooted in the style that dominated Rossini's operatic masterpieces.
Swiss choral conductor Fritz Näf and the Basle Madrigalist Choir (Basler Madrigalisten) summon a performance that is both masterly and atmospheric.
Re-release 2011. Recorded 1993 by Swiss Radio DRS.
Petite Messe Solenelle. Kyrie.
Basle Madrigalist Choir, F. Näf
