The Swiss voice in the world since 1935

Stahlberger: Abghenkt (Left Behind)

swissinfo.ch

Swiss-German Dialect / Songwriter / Electro. Manuel Stahlberger is a thirtysomething cabaret artist-musician from St. Gallen, Eastern Switzerland. 2009 he garnered with the Salzburger Stier the most important cabaret award in the German-speaking world. It was back then that this artist with a penchant for bizzare stories about the middle-class also formed his progressive band Stahlberger. On its current, second album, Abghenkt's leader further articulates his discomfiture with commonplace daily life by declaiming in sprechgesang lyrics full of subtle irony. The underlaid, hazy electro sounds nicely counterpart these stories, making them even club compatible: one of the most significant Swiss dialect albums to be released in years.
