Tens of thousands of musicians, alphorn blowers, dancers and visitors are meeting in the Swiss town of Frauenfeld this weekend for what is officially called the National Yodel Fest.

The Swiss folk event brings together people from all over the world, including yodellers from Calgary, Johannesburg, Auckland and the United States.

“There is an incredibly festive atmosphere here in Frauenfeld,” said a media spokeswoman, adding that the event had attracted television teams from the United States, Japan and Britain.

Apart from the various competitions, the yodel fest features music concerts, recitals, folk dances – and plenty of food and drink.

A massive 160 judges are deciding the prize winners among the 10,000 competitors.
